Defend, don’t end
Stand up, not down
Persevere, don’t fear
That’s all us colored folks can adhere
Liberty and justice
Y’all sure that’s for all?
We colored folk don’t have justice and that isn’t all
Freedom you say, can that really be?
Freedom has never been for us throughout this “homeland of free”
But opportunity is real, and life is free
And come 1968 all us colored folk will see
We dreamed the dream so we could condone
That dreams do come true, if you don’t stand alone
