13 Letters

Location

There are thirteen letters that I crave to hear,

In a specific order, however.

I want to listen to parents whisper it in childrens ears,

I want people who think they're clever,

People who think they're right,

People who live in the shadows to see the light,

Through these thirteen letters.

The world would be a different place if we used these letters more often,

The world would be less cruel, if only,

People from New Orleans to Miami to L.A to Austin,

Would all be less lonely,

The wonders of the cosmos would be more wonderful,

The flowers in the park would be more colourful,

If only we spoke these thirteen letters.

Let me teach you.

The power of a teacher is unrivaled,

And a degree does not a teacher make,

Just like chapters do not make a bible,

One must be a teacher for teachings sake.

Teachers are everywhere - from your boss to your child,

From a stranger in the street,

To the person who always makes you smile,

But the words "Let me teach you"

Are always welcome.

Wisdom is not a currency, to be hoarded and stored,

Wisdom is not a toy, with which you can get bored,

Wisdom is the meaning of life,

Wisdom is the reason you decided your girlfriend should be your wife,

Wisdom is the very idea that the book is more powerful than the knife,

Wisdom is power, one which cannot corrupt,

Wisdom is the thought that lead you to construct,

Wisdom is the future, held in your head,

Wisdom is what separates fear from dread.

And by saying the words,

"Let me teach you"

You have offered to share your wisdom,

The price of which is too high to pay,

When you offer to teach another,

You are not giving wisdom away,

What you are doing, however,

Is showing someone the way.

If I could change the world, I would make these words more common,

Because knowledge is what separates the man from the robin,

The Batman from the Joker, and the slave from Tutankhamun.

Our progeny can only thrive with wisdom from the past,

And how else can we bestow the wisdom,

If we only share when we're asked?

I would not change violence,

I would not change a taboo,

I would only change the frequency,

Of the words, "Let me teach you."
