“WELCOME, MAEVE” POEM BY ROY OC CHUKWU

Three months without communication made me feel cold

An already cold world we are in

I wonder how it would be without my dearest friend

My mind’s travelling

Far and beyond

Still so deep

I cannot completely comprehend

Why this got me in tears

Kept wake in search of your closest persons on the web

With high hope that I get in touch with you again

I went to your page and I saw in a post you needed a God in the human person

As old as a two-year-old baby that was

It was deeper than just words

I have been thinking of you ever since I noticed your absence

Why have I got to think this deeply about your absence?

Are you not just like any other human?

Or, do you like her?

It may be so usual for them

But this is not usual for me

My spirit tells me this is so unusual

It was indeed a cold fold

Where ever you are, never fold

Keep living ‘til you are eventually old

As long as there is life, there is hope

Just forget the times that you got under my skin

Which made me scold

As I am in the search to reconnect with you

I write this poem hoping you will read it soon

The tears in my eyes while I face up to the moon

After the sun shone directly on my iris

Some days, the clouds move faster like it is pressed

Those are the ways my tears sound

But I’m never depressed

You’ve been close to me at heart

Though distance made us apart

When you read this soon

You’ll know all the places I have been to

Just to see you

Just to see you soon

You know who matters

Maybe the person that fights till the very end for you

Welcome, Maeve!
