“Don’t get insecure now”

Insecure is my default! When the caffeine

has worn out,
and my bravado
has been questioned...I tend to tuck tail and run

Leap like a frog
Who knows he’s in
Cajun territory

Spread wings
Flapping violently
Like a chicken
Who accepts
A calculated jump
With the same triumph
As actual flight

When the lights come up
And the night is through
The tables no longer full
Of delicious foods..
I’m basically the tattered carpet,
you never noticed
But now that you do
You spot chuncks of gum
Matted mess, with a worn in path,

Trust me
They don’t take the time
To notice the brilliance
That once was my pattern

Me
