Not where you should be

Why are you here?
You don’t belong.
I wish you were near.
But you’re in there, so stay strong.
That isn’t where you’re supposed to be
You should be free,
You should be around with us, with me.
I miss you terribly.
I know there’s something to be said
For loyalty, it’s good, I know.
But you’re in over your head
And you’re hurting us, we miss you so.
You could’ve made a deal,
It wasn’t even you
Now you’re locked up, and look at how we feel.
I still think you’re coming soon, but I know it isn’t true.
I really wish that it was true.
Was it really worth it to protect him?
To put yourself out on a limb?
Leaving us with our eyes filled with tears to the brim
But maybe it wasn’t that
Not about loyalty, or being thought of as a rat
Maybe you were afraid
I don’t blame you, I’d be too.
But you shouldn’t have been arrested
You shouldn’t have been convicted
Still, though, you’re in there, afflicted and restricted.
And you know you shouldn’t have been put in,
You know it wasn’t your sin
You’re a casualty of the system
One with too many flaws to list them
You know it’s not you that was wrong.
You know you don’t belong.
