Stages of Grief: Inside

Inside

My tears fall swift and silent.

It is too quiet…

Deafening silence fills the air,

lays on my bed,

and covers the floor.

Blinds closed, lights off,

sickening gray replaces the orange and red.

I stand at the closed door, looking in on a dead space.

Suddenly the ground is closer.

My hands cover my face,

ears wait for the sound of a little bell,

legs wait for the rub of loving fur.

It never comes.
