How Could You?

Sirens scream into the night.

Blue and red follow closely, blinding the stars.

It's the house at the end of the street.

A woman lives there.

You know because you've seen her stummble through the door on late nights.

Smelling like she's had a little too much.

Handcuffs?

She's being placed in the back of the car.

But wait, you think.

What about the little girl?

The little girl who lives th-...

Lived.

Following the woman is a stretcher.

With a sheet already covering who lies beneath.

You then remember.

You've seen her walk home before.

You've noticed the bruises.

Heard the screams.

And you did nothing...

How could you?
