Unsung
Shavano Steadman
You turn your head to fight
Back the tears that cloud your sight
Kiss her lips goodnight
Tell her that it will be alright
All the while wishing for that night
Back, to make a change
Search to find the range
In your heart’s ability to love a mistake
You lie and say you love her
Think of her as your baby’s mother
Nothing more nothing less
Black and white in color
You kissed her lips that night
Claiming it will be alright
If you gave her all you had
Everything dressed in white
You see the fear inside her eyes
As the doctor goes inside
You smell the tears that rise
And you hold her hand and cry
That is the beauty of poetry
It sings my unsung lullaby
