Blue Sunshine
“We love you no matter what.”
“I’ll never support gay marriage.”
“We’re always so proud of you.”
“That lifestyle is a crime against God.”
“As long as you’re happy, that’s all that matters”...
Contradiction.
It runs deep within my family.
They’re so open and kind, yet judgemental and cruel.
Intentionally or not, of course they don’t even know it.
“I’ll never support a gay couple adopting.”
I want to scream, “How can you say that,
When your own sister is adopted?
Would you rather her to have stayed with her drug addicted mother,
Than go live with a loving couple, that just happen to be gay?”
But I keep my mouth shut,
Because I know what that would mean for me.
For simply saying the truth
For announcing who I am,
“Mom, Dad, I’m Bi.”
Disownment.
My family is my sunshine,
But instead of their golden yellow,
I shine the color blue.
