What Keeps Me Up At Night.
It’s not what wakes me up in the morning it’s what keeps me up at night.
Because I wake up and my first words are
“I’m going to take a nap later.”
Then I get home.
I set my bag down.
And I open my laptop.
I scoot closer to my desk
And I start on my homework.
My eyes wander to the red book.
The small writing book full of stories
of my creation and worlds I molded with
the stroke of my hand. Then I have to direct
my focus to the work that will free me from here.
Because when I leave I’ll be able to educate myself
on stories and structures and worlds that I want,
to live in. I will be able to learn about people
like me and about the magic that is story
Writing. So when I think about all that.
And the possibilities the future holds
for me. It isn’t very hard to stay up
all night working on math and
science when all I want to
do is English. So it’s not
what wakes me up in
the morning… it’s
what keeps me
up at night.
This lack of sleep will lead to freedom
and allow me to create the world I so desperately want to be a reality.
