Poetry Abuses Me
Poetry abuses me,
Flirts with me one minute and
Abandons me the next.
She gives me palaces
And then she burns them to the ground.
Poetry taunts me,
Hands me jewels and fills
My dreams with cathedrals
Only to snatch them away
And leave me a beggar, inspiration run dry.
But I can’t convince myself
To leave her behind
And find my way out of the storm,
For I might miss the lightning.
