Unashamed

I am bruised and maimed

The masses will someday know my name

I am one of they very few

Who refuses the silence, whose words spit and spew

I will not hide

I will not fade away

They clump us together and throw us away

Who are we?

The smal and the proud

The ones who are beaten and plucked from the crowd

Before, I hid the blood in my veins

The shame overwhelmed me

It gripped tight the reigns

But never again will I change the name

Of the thing I hold close the thing I can't change

Who I am inside, the beating of my heart

The calling of my land, it called me from the start

Who am I?

I am a woman, fierce and courageous

I am Latina

I am not contagious

We are not parasites, hidden from site

No, we are the future

Hear us roar with all our might

We are not ignorant nor are we all illegal

We are beautiful, we are regal

Who am I you wonder and ask?

I am unashamed, unashamed at last
