A Rower's Revelation

- For Cory -

Daintiness was never in my design

I wasn't ever intended to be petite

pixie-like

delicate

slender

but you have to play with the cards you've been dealt

do what you were designed to do.

I never saw them as gifts

blessings

trophies

treasures to be desired

I wasn't spun together like a filigree daisy on a chain

but I can be proud of what I was made to be.

Daintiness was never in my design

because I was built for

force

strength

power

ferocity

the drive

I was built for explosions

created to move a boat

catch

drive

send

to pick up and go

slam the legs

to learn to fly

I was built to bleed into the oars

ache into the riggers

with fire in my lungs I sweat in the water

though my legs are too big to please your world,

they're flawless in mine
