Fight Fire

They told her she would never fight fires

But they didn’t know about the deep fire within

She fought day after day

Fueling her desire

That fire was on the verge of swallowing her whole

The heat coursing through her veins

The toxic waste of her frustration seeping out of her pores

They told her her hands were too delicate to get the job done

But they didn’t know about the scars of the past

She grew from

Sparking her strength

That grip powerful enough to crush stones

The muscles driven by anger and determination

The calluses built by sculptors of fighters

They told her she was too humble to join the company

But they didn’t know about her caged spirit

She was never given the opportunity to release

Burning her mind

That mentality imposed by society conformed her

The intelligence screamed to be free

The leader inside knew it was time

She told herself she would fight fire

And they couldn’t stop her.
