Stand up

Location

You live in a land full of freedom,

But you can’t even stand up to sing the national anthem?

Free will to do and say whatever you please,

Meanwhile a soldier just got a double amputation above his knees.

You live your life with no worry,

While he’s begging to get out of the desert in a hurry.

Sitting down to dinner with your family every night,

While he stays awake and continues the fight.

Laughing and talking and enjoying your day,

While he’s begging to see just one more as he bows down to pray.

He stands in a dry desert holding a rifle scared for his life,

It’s been almost 6 months since he’s last seen his children or wife.

Never knowing when he will be able to have another family dinner,

Missing meals becoming thinner and thinner.

Forced to see traumatizing events,

Living every night in uncomfortable tents.

He sacrifices his all for people he has never even met,

While you continue to live life without even breaking a sweat.

How can you sit there knowing someone has just died for you?

And you can’t even honor them by standing for a few?

I understand that you do have the right,

To remain sitting during the Anthem being sung tonight.

But just know there are human beings,

That died for that right that you are overseeing.

If you do not wish to stand behind our troops,

Feel free to stand in front of the group.
