You Never Know

They are the stranger across the street.
You glimpse their face, you catch their eye,
But I ask you… Do you know?
They are your friends.
You laugh together, you study together,
But I ask you… Do you know?
They are your best friend.
You know her secrets she knows yours,
But I ask you… Do you know?
They are your child.
You know them, you made them, they are you,
But I ask you… Do you know?
No matter how much we think we know people,
We never know what they may be thinking, planning, or dreaming.
So I ask you… Do you know?
No, you never know.
