Tribute to Ruby Bridges

I was depressed,
Never impressed,
Feelings suppressed,
Left unexpressed…
We went for a walk,
Neither of us dared to talk.
Thinking away
that horrible day.
My head I tried to clear,
But couldn't take back something so sincere.
Life is but a game,
This theory I put to shame.
Images fill my head,
Make me wish I was dead.
I fall to the ground.
There wasn't a sound.
Try to hear,
But they do not speak.
Try to watch,
But cannot see.
People surround me,
I cannot breathe.
They'll never understand,
I'll never achieve.
Finally I awoke,
Never again will I joke.
I got up with my head held high,
Let out an immense sigh,
Decided I would face the world that day,
Not just sit and let this life waste away.
