The Things Fear Says

How many times has Fear limited me?

Too many to count.

But enough is enough,

Because Fear has been speaking for us too long.

And we must finally be able to speak for ourselves.

Fear says,

You’re going to fail the test.

Fear says,

The plane will fall.

Fear says,

You won’t succeed.

Fear says,

You’re parents won’t accept you.

Fear says,

You’ll never find love.

Fear says,

You’re going to live in a box.

Fear says,

Everyone will leave you.

Fear says,

You’re going to die alone.

Fear says,

Nobody cares.

Fear says,

And says, and says.

All Fear does is say.

But we must tell Fear what we have to say.

Because Fear is irrational,

But we are not.

We say,

I will do my best on the test,

We say,

The plane is fine.

We say,

I will succeed.

We say,

My parents love me.

We say,

Loving myself is enough.

We say,

I’m going to have a home.

We say,

I will die surrounded by beautiful memories.

We say,

I care.

We say, we say, we say.

And we need to keep on saying.

So Fear can finally shut up.
