Surely

If the looks I gave her were illegal,

Surely i'd have a life sentence.

I'd be locked away forever like my heart inside my ribcage,

C4 exploding with each beat,

And unforgiving steel bones.

Struggle with no hope of escape.

Surely the looks I give her are illegal.

The looks of a one sided love she knows nothing about,

Only given when she looks away or laughs till she's blinded by tears.

Because best friends aren't allowed to love each other like this,

Surely those looks should be illegal.

Yet, I continue my awful offense,

Knowing fully well the danger i'm in.

Because she is the blood pumped in my veins,

The very reason why my heart is alive.

Why I can drink coffee anymore, for fear my heart won't be able to take it.

Why there are fireworks inside me so desperate to be free,

But will never leave the bomb shelter i've so carefully locked them away in.

Surely it's illegal to love someone who doesn't love you.
