Street Lights

Night skys with absent stars
The air is thick with the smell of the city
The stars are too far to see
Yet so close you can touch them
Downtown , the city is bustling
People from around the world
Sitting back just ingesting
This wonderful city
Full of drugs and cops
Murders and worshippers
Of many religions and ideologies
And then there is him
A young boy who has only known the city
Who moved away from it
To hopefully find a new path
He needs no pity
He just feels empty
Because the city was his heart
The roads his veins
The buildings his eyes
The sewers his anger
The water around it his body
And the people inside it his cells
The city was him
And he was the city
The streetlights were his guide
And God was the electrician
But he had to leave
For the city held him down
It took away the air from his balloon
His dreams falling low
His ambitions undermined
Legs cut from under him
Air stolen from his lungs
His blackened lungs
Because of the pollution
From the rumors and destitution
Because of the failed instotuions
And cops who have no resolutions
Street lights
That he wishes he could bring with him
But they are long gone
All his friends are different
And no one remebers his pictures
He tries to go back
But he to realizes he isnt the same
The city has changed
Or maybe its because he was away
That he finally realized
The city was and always will be
Corrupted
Destructive
And thats the truth
The dark dark truth
And maybe one day he too
Will accept the change
And the pain will fade....
