Straight for the Heart

“The idea is to write

So that people hear it

And it slides

Through the brain

And goes straight for the heart”

I push pen to paper

No eraser

Because there are no mistakes

Like word spoken

My mind’s just woven

A web of stories to tell

Of life’s learned lessons

And a young girl’s questions

Of trying to navigate the world

Like any piece of art

Poetry remains

An embodiment of oneself

It’s

A message

A declaration

A timeline

It’s

Growth

I’ve learned that

It can be

Medicine

Therapy

Discussion

It’s

A spiritual awakening

I’ve learned that

It will always be

Words

Thoughts

Emotions

Without Mistakes

So I push pen to paper

With no eraser

To set myself free

Like the caged bird sings

I’ve sung my song

To bless the ears

Of

Those who have lost

To those who have struggled

To those who have not

Poetry is a megaphone

Speaking away Injustice

Inequality

And ignorance

Word is written

Like those who’ve spoken

And is never

Wishfully

forgotten.
