To Set the Bird Free
Just sad that it can come to this
A beautiful nation, a beautiful person
Torn apart, arguing within
Over the color of their skin
Separating based on looks
Because that’s “better”
For everyone in general
Never mind if they can write books
Speak, paint, perform
As good as anyone else
Secretly shut up, no chance
Don’t you realize
That they’re human beings?
Living out their lives
Acting on their dreams
We’re all the same
No matter the race
Looking for a simple place
In a world of increasing strain.

Our world
