Driving past on a highway,
I look at the sun, what a beautiful day

Then something catches my eye,
And that something, makes me cry

A rugged old man with a rough looking sign,
That had a few simple words, that made up a couple lines

“I am old, but you don’t cry for me,
I need food, but you pretend not to see.”

I pull into the fast food place,
but I still picture his face

I order a Double Cheese burger for me,
Leaving my thoughts lay where they be

Again, I try to drive by, but something makes me stop,
and the next thing that happens makes my heart drop

I get out and hand him what I ordered for me,
And he shows me something you rarely see

He takes the burger and smiles a thank you,
And I simply say “This is the least I could do.”

As I watch him unwrap the pathetic meal,
I noticed a golden retriever at his heal

He doesn’t think twice, about what to do,
He gave that dog all of his food

I looked at him and asked “Why”
He stared at me, and said as I cried

“I found him lost and hungry,
and how selfish it would be of me,

to take what I could give,
to deprive another the right to live.”

I looked at him in disbelief, as I processed my thoughts,
I had found something that had long been lost

Selflessness comes in needing times,
And only the selfish draw such lines

Thank you!
I wasn't sure if it was going to actually move people, or just kind of make them "aware"
Thank-you for commenting!!
