Self-defense

Ecclesiastes 7:12 12 For wisdom is a defense as money is a defense,
But the excellence of knowledge is that wisdom gives life to those who have it.
Self-defense

.

Self-defense. What a phrase.

I’ll protect the “me” I know.

But who am I and why protect

someone I hardly know?

Should I protect the mental “me”

and built a wall around it?

Make a fortress there to hide

and complain of loneliness?

When someone comes to the gate

and finds it closed and guarded

I won’t answer any knock

until that someone goes away.

I will protect my freedom

all locked up by myself

in rooms of my own making

all filled with emptiness.

Here I protect transgressions

and my self-interest.

I fill the shelves around the walls

with all my self-opinion.

The glory that I need

is looking at myself

existing in a phrase

that I myself do seek.

Here I’m in the middle

and all I see is mine

in the castle of my making

I have now full dominion.

A hall for self-interest

with a throne in the middle.

I’m adored by my subjects.

Me, myself and mine...

Still me
