secret garden

I let you in my heart

Like a seed you rooted inside
Weeds sprouted in my veins
And Ivy started to climb

Vines wrapped around my collarbone
Flowers came out of my mouth
You fed them sweet words, let them thrive
And when you left, they shriveled out

And every now and again, the Sun shines right
And I see you coming around
And again they bloom with such ferocity
You’d think my chest was part of the ground

Now tree roots are breaking apart my ribs
With every crack, I’m shutting down
A whole world has grown deep in my gut
And you’re the only Sunlight I’ve ever found

Now here you stand in front of me
I feel my forest come alive
“I can never love you” you pluck a rose from behind my ear
The darkness closes in, and I lay my heart down to die
