Press On

Arms, body, slide, catch,

Push through with strong legs.

Repeat the motion, hundreds of times,

As you know victory awaits behind.

No way of knowing how far to go,

But you keep pushing, pressing through.

Only one knows the distance left,

You just with you could get inside their head.

“250 meters left,” the tiny person says,

“Sprint to the finish! Empty your tanks!”

The pain at this point is at its peak,

The grunts and screams can be heard from the beach.

“Last 10…9…8…!” Almost to the end!

The pain is no more, bodies go limp.

The horrid screams replaced with ones of delight,

We had gotten first place, no doubt in mind.

The boat wouldn’t move if we didn’t do it together,

That’s why I love rowing, there’s nothing better.
