My Truth

I was born and raised color blind.

The races of everyone around me was gone.

I was taught to believe that everyone was human,

By mixed race parents.

I hear your questions about where I’m from

And I see the confused faces,

That arise from the word multi-racial.

It’s interesting how we treat everyone different,

Yet a smile is the same around the world.

Our minds are corrupted by food, love, and selfishness,

Believing everything the media says to us.

Why is it that we still rely on others for confidence?

I am a person who loves myself for who I am,

And I wear makeup for enjoyment not shame,

And I exercise because I love my body.

My friends reflect who I am,

Being filled with diversity and beauty.

Our busy lives keep us away,

From the sinful society amongst us.

Church is my sanctuary.

I feel the warm hands of everyone in prayer,

And the love of God in worship.

No taste of food can satisfy this craving I have.

My busy life can cause chaos and stress,

But I remember that material items,

Don’t bring happiness.

Music is way to stay calm and strengthen the mind.

I try to stay positive and respect authority,

Because my attitude will send me in the wrong direction.

I try new things to get a taste of the world I am in,

As I am multi-racial.

As I am multi-racial.
