My lungs don't work well,

My lungs don't work well, but my brain does,

And with my brain I dream and dream!

In these dreams I can see my future.

However, my brain does not sing.

I sang for you - or was it for a grade?

You've told me to reconsider.

"You need fully-functioning lungs, my dear.

You are determined, but the brain doesn't sing."

I will sing with my heart, I will sing with my brain

I will sing with my chronically ill lungs.

If you, professor, have taught me one thing,

It's to sing on, to always sing on.
