My Eyes

I had to close my eyes

Pain sat at the bottom of my heart

Anger pulled on my tear ducts

Sorrow pounded on my brain

The three friends together

Consuming my body whole

She cried on shoulder

Yet my eyes still solidly closed

Pain forced me to remember how sad you were that day

Anger made my skin boil at how you went away

Sorrow gave me a migraine which I couldn’t escape

The three friends playing together

Making my body shake

I had to open my eyes

I had to see my mother cry

I had to be strong for her

For me

No tears fell that day

And it was all one last gift from me to you
