Moments Worth Forgetting

There is a moment before death that one realizes they are dying

That minute when Alzheimer’s patients grasp that memories are gone

One second before you fall when time seems frozen

And that horrible comprehension that you have become insane

The contempt when youth fades to age

And strength gives to weakness

How passionate lovers deteriorate into strangers

And when the innocence of a child is desecrated

When pain becomes so common you begin to numb

And the day you forget the will to live

The feeling when grief is so strong

You can’t even manage to cry

Watching waiting for the snap

Like a bubble about to pop

Like a pot about to boil

Like a glass about to shatter

Like a tear about to fall

Like seeing sunlight fade from canvas

A candle blowing out

A match that can’t spark

It’s never loud

It’s the silent death of your last hope
