I AM
Facing the mirror, the sharp-faced reflection of a person I once told myself I was not
The girl with the scar
I am the girl young as spring's first morn
I am niave and sweet as the kitten's first opened eyes that greet the hazy light of day after birth
I am the woman in love and falling fast
On her knees, wishing for some shoe of glass, not knowing that's all her world is made of
I am the girl betrayed
I am the girl blinded and shattered
I am the girl who got herself in too deep, screaming in darkness
Terrified, thinking there was no way out
I am the girl who had enough
I fought my way out and up
And stood with bloody nails and mud in my hair, looking down into the darkness and said "How did I get there?"
I am the strong one, first to get back on her feet and refused to be knocked down again.
And through that eye, that black sore, could still see I didn't love him anymore
I am the girl, better and wiser than before
I am the girl in the mirror
I am the girl with the scar
