Independence

As I gaze out the window of the train that I'm on
I see my memories flashing by like a slideshow of my life.
A party here, an argument there, and as i watch
I realize just how naive I have been.

As I look out I can see myself as I was as a child,
So ignorant and so reliant on my parents for everything.
As the images move on I can see myself growing,
Soon beginning to make decisions for myself.

As I watch myself I grow older, more responsible.
I realize that this train that is leading me through my life
Is quickening pace, gaining speed as I rush through high school.
I see that I am steering its direction with my choices.

Now I take control of the train, making it go where I please.
My parents have less and less influence as I grow older.
I know now where my train is headed;
I am on my way to Independence.
