I Grew Out of Being a Child
It wasn't a sudden realization,
but suddenly,
I didn't fit my tutus or ballet shoes,
I stopped sleeping with plushies piled on my covers,
I quit counting my steps as I walked.
Maybe I grew up when people started saying,
"You're an adult now."
and,
"Stop being childish."
I don't think I ever stopped being a kid at heart,
But I grew out of being a child when everyone stopped calling me one.
