Hope

The moonlit beach a ribbon in the night,

I hear the salty waves with their loud quietness.

My footprints mar the unblemished sand.

Me on the island, the island in me.

I sit all alone on my “darkling” shore

Awaiting the blessed return of light

The dark stillness tries to engulf me,

Dragging me deeper than the ocean floor…

But then, a spark of warmth, a feeling of peace,

A pinpoint of light at the end of my tunnel.

I close my eyes yet the light remains;

I drift off to sleep cradled in Hope’s safe embrace.
