Hero

There is a man in a suit, larger than life, who claims he is there to help. There is nothing to it, simple and free, just follow these few easy steps. Sign your life on the line and you will be given more time with just a little bit more of a debt. They wear the capes of heroes and sail in from the sky, but their smiles and their eyes all hide the lie. They are not saving the world, they are claiming it for their own, leaving us stranded, confused and alone. Who shall stand for the broken hearted? Who shall defend the feeble and misguided? Who shall direct the lost and gone astray, bear the burdens with grace and all of the costs pay? Shall it be a man behind a desk, whose statutes and money form his mask? No. It shall not be one who towers above, but one who rises from below. A person with a will to lead and a desire the way to show. They shall come from the ashes and declare a new day is dawning, the chapter of falsehood and greed is closing. This hero will stand for those who lack the strength to rise, lift them on his shoulders, and defend the rights of all mankind. Who shall this hero be? A strapping young man, you imagine, with vast knowledge and the key. Strong and fearless, lifting cars above his head, making marks on our lives, and swooping in at the last minute. No. All this hero needs is an open mind and a care for humanity. A hero is not made by his cape or mask, nor by the powers he possesses. A hero is made by his willingness to lead despite the constant oppressions. This hero that saves the world will not be spectacular in appearance or grand in gesture and speech. The force that will save the world is none other than you and me. We must rise to the occasion, bear the burdens weighing us down. Together, we can lift even the heaviest of loads up off the ground. We shall make this life worth while, breaking the chains of yesterday with a smile. Together we can leap tall buildings in a single bound, so long as we refuse to look down. Never looking back, we shall march on to freedom from oppression, freedom from depression, freedom from obsession, freedom from the recession and freedom from the fear of unacceptance. All it takes is one person, one hero, to rise and go do. Lead on, oh hero. It is all up to you.
