A Fight for Us

My identity is being erased

Slowly dissolved until all that’s left,

Is social debate and controversy

I am dismantled, disfigured, disgraced

You stomp on my dignity

And make jokes of my body

I am not the only one being defaced

We are many, overshadowed

But our voice never ceased

An entire community is chased

With pitch forks and fire

With disrespect and hate

We quickly follow with haste

To defend our life, our liberty

Just as you claim to do with spite

Our efforts will not go to waste

Every step a victory

Every loss, a new determination

Our history is traced

We forge trails in the paths which

Our ancestors burned through

Each of our words, carefully placed

We believe in each other

We believe in justice

The echo of your distaste

Will soon be a distant nightmare

As we push on through the night

Our dreams have been incased

In the amber of hope,

Our family will not be silenced

This poem is about:
Our world
