The Essence of Happiness

Fri, 03/07/2014 - 15:48 -- cgoins

A dear friend once told me she was unhappy.

I couldn't think of what to say.

I just smiled and grabbed her hand.

Don't worry, I said. You will find it someday.

My dear friend didn't agree.

Happiness, she said, is an emotion.

You won't find it under the bed

Or in a magic potion.

Once again I smiled and said

True my friend, no emotion lies under the bed.

The essence of happiness is nothing to touch.

It flows lightly through your mind

and is not faithful to luck.

It may not smell like roses or weigh a pound.

But it is something that is lost

and inside yourself it must be found.
