Crooked Smile

For all that she was worth,

For all that she loved,

She was never loved back.

However,

She never complained,

Never faltered,

Never stopped loving.

Her crooked smile stood for beauty.

Her crooked smile stood for her loving soul.

I know that

Because I’ve been watching her.

As much as she loved,

She was never loved back.

However,

She never complained,

Never faltered,

Never stopped loving.

Her crooked smile stood for strength,

She is amazing,

She is wonderful,

She is one of a kind.

I know that

Because I was too late.

Her crooked smile stood for pain,

The truth.

But I loved her.

And that’s a truth

Her smile never knew.

Great poem. The structure of the poem, to me, represents the quick decisions and the different types of pain associated with knowing this information "too late."
