Because I Love Myself More

You told me that

You would never hurt me.

You told me that

One day we would get married in June.

Because you loved me.

Our siblings would wear the perfect colors

So that their sweat in the heat would be hidden.

You told me that

You never opened up to anyone but me.

You never told me about her though,

Instead, I was beaten to a pulp by the whispers of others.

You never told me that.

Now you tell her

That you love her.

That you would never hurt her.

Now I'm the one who has to live a lie.

I say that I'm over it,

because I love myself more than you ever did.
