Beast of the Ball

Location

The game is about to begin, once the ref oscillates her hand

I can hear my heart pounding louder than the bounce of the ball

I look up at the scoreboard that is as blank as a check, then to the stand

And feel as uneasy as an expecting mother, knowing my parents are watching it all

I can hear my heart pounding louder than the bounce of the ball

So I try to look down, but feel the rush of my fluttering

And feel as uneasy as an expecting mother, knowing my parents are watching it all

From the bleachers to the court comes their doubtful uttering

So I try to look down, but feel the rush of my fluttering

As I begin to show my parents my “soothing” smile

From the bleachers to the court comes their doubtful uttering

I pray for salvation that they won’t see me play for a while

As I begin to show my parents my “soothing” smile

A white orb unbidden hits my face then the ground

I pray for salvation that they won’t see me play for a while

But am forced to get my head in the game and not out of bounds

A white orb unbidden hits my face then the ground

But I feel motivated to counter them with an “ace”

And am forced to get my head in the game and not out of bounds

Transforming into a villain, determined to crush the heroines with grace

But I feel motivated to counter them with an “ace”

Yet begin to feel the power seeping into my skin

Transforming into a villain, determined to crush the heroines with grace

Focusing on nothing but fulfilling the devil’s orders from within.

Yet begin to feel the power seeping into my skin

The game is about to begin, once the ref oscillates her hand

Transforming into a villain, determined to crush the heroines with grace

I look up at the scoreboard that is as blank as a check, then to the stand
