I was told as a young blood that I couldn't make it
I was said that I would never amount to anything
Even though the odds are all against me
If one opportunity can open I have to take it
Most are impoversished, most are neglected
Few are feared, and few are respected
Rise from the ashes and step into the light
For we need to understand that every light that burns with in
Is our potential to against any darkness that we are put against
I've had people try to break down my aspirations
So I read my bible for preperation
I'm told that I'll never be good and to most those are harsh words
But to me that's just appreciation

Thank you for publishing this work. I found it very interesting, and an interesting take on an old theme. Particularly these four lines were interesting:

"Few are feared, and few are respected
Rise from the ashes and step into the light
For we need to understand that every light that burns with in
Is our potential to against any darkness that we are put against"

I took it to mean that fear and respect are earned the same way, but realizing ones potential. But it is in the way that your potential is realized that shapes who you will be. But none the less, every person has potential to over come obstacles in their path.

Anyways, thank you for sharing!
