Lightskin was my dream
Ignorant to my beauty
My reflction was my nightmare
But I lived in darkskin
Brown as can be
My skin was my hated reality
How can I live with such low self esteem
from within rose a conviction
so new,not once envisioned
the conviction to seek prevention
from the diction
known to unpresentation
the diction of fear and discouragement
I am at an impasse
I don't know what to do
Because I have built my life around
Trying to become you
