Lap of Nature
By Rahul Suri
In the lap of Nature
The water hurried around
The water rushed around
Gurgling, gurgling
Soft ripples
water slapping against the pebbles
pushing the verdant calamus
On the beach
Summer, when the sun blows blazing kisses on your back and beads of exasperated sweat swim upon the softness of your skin.
Raisins.
Vile, dried, bitter fruit of the sun –
Grandma always said, they’re just grapes that got left outside too long.
Raisins in the sun: In my lunch box they go.
Please mom. Please don’t make me eat these.
The hottest sun, touches every star in the sky
I felt that sun tell me how to dust the dirt off my pants
In the summer when my shoes would get holes in the toes
Those summers, those shoes
Dear crush,
Thank you for existing
Thank you for being perfect and reminding me that I’m not.
