There’s a ringing in her from stretch to stint,
bringing on a certainty that made her sweat rigid.
Not in for the drive of your life, spare her first precious years.
A Poem for the Man on the Platform
“Men love a woman in a dress.”
I recoil as if struck,
In the world of a cultural salad,
I am not American nor Guatemalan
I do not engage in my family's culture
I do not speak perfect Spanish yet I learned it first
I do not resemble that of my family
Broken bones
And a broken heart
Blued skin
And waterfall tears
Fixed
By flowers of false love
