The Youth are Something
We are the youth trying to fall in love!
Not like The Notebook and Nicolas Sparks,
or John Green with The Fault in Our Stars,
i'm telling you, we are the stars and there's no fault in them!
We are just trying to fall in love with the words that are written
in our hearts, in our minds,
and do you really think i'll be fine
in a world that ignores the words that are mine?
Because i've been saying over and over again,
that these words in our journals are meant to be said,
but we choose not to, and keep them in our books
to avoid the ironically judging adult looks
because we tell them we're in love, and they don't believe us,
but how can they say that when my journal is filled with pencil-marked pages
of poems and entries, not only about you and me,
but the struggles we've been through and all that we've seen?
Yet, they paint a picture where teens only
fall in love with boyfriends and girlfriends
instead of music and books,
and that they don't have experience,
or enough knowledge of the world
or that the things they say don't have much worth
because adults teach us that we don't know what we're talking about,
and that's all we learn.
Am i supposed to feel this immersed
in the actual belief that teens
don't know what it means
to fall in love?
Because i'm in love, i'm in love, i'm in love!
With words and how they create melodies
that somehow transform into harmonies
with each other
and if I could put my words together,
I would write you a symphony
of how much you mean to me!
But, my words don't have much worth
because I am still young and don't know much about the world.
This world, where youth try to speak out,
hoping for an ear that would listen,
that's all we ask for,
not a game of losing or winning
because in this system,
we are destined to lose
since we are only young, dumb, wise fools.
A sophmore, who isn't soft anymore
exists to say that the youth are in love!
Not with the romance, but the novel
and how it makes us feel special
because my first love was in third grade when I read my first book series,
and my first heartbreak was when I finished that story,
and oh how that time made me who I am today,
a teen who falls in love with words everyday.
