You + I = Us

The other day I was going through a Ross-Simons catalogue

Flipping the pages

Glancing at the pictures

When something caught my eye

It was a necklace

One of those multi-strand ones that have been in the catalogues for the last couple of months or so

Comes in different varieties

Some are pearls: white, gray, pink or black

Others have got tanzanite or moonstones or coral

I’ve seen ones with labradorite

Jades

Chalcedony

Onyx

Agates

Lapis

Carnelians

Opals

Quartzes

Amazonite

In all different shades

Whites, blues, greens, pinks, purples, reds, peaches, grays, oranges, yellows, blacks, browns

Milky

And clear

The list goes on and on

Each strand twists around the next

Some a little tighter

Than the rest

The sparkling gemstones

Entwining with each other

Snaking its way

Through all the strands

Dazzling the eye

And then I noticed the words underneath the picture

That said

That the strands

Could be taken apart

To form

Individual necklaces

Necklaces

That pop

Make you stand out

Jazz your outfit

Set you aside

Turn you into

An individual

But when needed

Could join up with

Hundreds of other

Sparkling gems

Like you

Twisted with gems

Like you

Connected with a clasp

Stronger than anything else

Because you are there

Forming a necklace

That shimmers in the dark

Bedazzles in the light

Because it was created

With people like you

Individuals

Like you

Iridescent

Alluring

Brilliant

Radiant

United

Undivided

Flawless

Powerful
