You Don't Know Me

Hey, Teacher!

Yeah, I'll call you that.

You don't know my name either.

What am I to you?

Another paper for you to grade,

 Or another pupil to lecture?

How about another check in the attendance book?

Am I a test score?

You assign homework each night

Without considering my life.

I have 5 other classes!

Not enough hours to complete the busywork

That means nothing for my future.

I don't have computer access at home.

There's no way for me to complete group work

Without transportation.

That math homework is too hard;

I don't have a tutor!

My name must mean nothing

Since you can't remember it.

You mark me down for homework

That is incomplete due to my life situation.

I attend class; the school gets paid.

I ace a standardized test; it makes you look good.

That is all I am to you.

Before you demand respect

Take the time to respect me.

Get to know who I am

Because, as of now,

You don't know me.
