x=-1

Long ago I was told the equation of the earth,
by a man who was gifted a sour perception,
that if the world was x, than negative one would be its worth.
He conceived, in any cause, cruel controls kind, without exception.
So I ventured into the world, believing him right,
knowing I would see that evil conquers good.
I let my heart harden, become the ice of foresight.
And the world greeted me as the man said it would.
Yes, x equals negative one hope, dream, desire,
the crushing of the soul, leaving a hole
due to man's need to fuel the endless fire.
Hopelessly, to this equation my soul began to enroll.
But once I saw your face, I knew I was misguided.
Now x is minus one lonely soul, thanks to the love you have provided.
