A World Gone Dark

The posters made it look swell

But now I know why survivors call it hell

My feet are soaked and sinking in mud

On my face and clothes there is dried blood

The word war does not fit

A world gone dark is what I call it

Down we go again

The days seem to blend

Eyes that once held the eagerness to fight

Now hold painful sights

The sun no longer shines these days

In a world gone dark very few still pray

There is no silence in the dark

For the bloodshed has left its mark

Cries of the dying and bullets ring in the ears

As we fight back and forth through the years

Countless lives lost in the name of our country's pride

All this hate cannot be put aside

A moment of silence is broken by a gasping breath

As a thousand soldiers march towards the face of death

I look towards the end of this journey I've embarked

For I am living in a world gone dark
