Words of Truth and Wonder

Have you ever read poetry

And wondered how it could be,

That such great words,

Never before heard,

Could come from a human being?

Smartness, intelligence and extensive meaning,

Engulf poetry, fuelling inspiration and dreaming.

Words of truth and wonder often told,

From fact to fiction many stories unfold,

Through poetry; thoughts come alive,

Widely upon literature and history it thrives.

Pondering and imagining, poets can relate

To those seeking closure and routes of escape

Or simply some words, suited to their taste.

So it is the reason many poets write,

To connect and somehow say what’s right.

Without the remarks that would spiral,

Had they said their thoughts aloud and viral.

Or perhaps just to plant a new idea or two,

And examine whether it grows on you.

So here it is, the reason I write,

Having discovered that maybe I might,

Have found a talent in poetry

I had to try- attempt to see,

If when others begin to read mine,

They would feel the same feelings I find

When I read poetry’s words of truth and wonder.
